Hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling have transformed the U.S. oil & gas industry by permitting oil and gas production from previously uneconomical formations. Production is at an all-time high, but this renaissance comes with a host of new technical, legal, and environmental challenges. Our expert faculty will tackle a range of issues, including:

  • Environmental challenges & local government regulatory efforts
  • Technical aspects and innovations for non-engineers
  • Liability for trespass when fractures cross subsurface property lines
  • Tips for service contracts and master service agreements
  • Expert and evidentiary issues when plaintiffs allege damages
  • How agreements drafted for vertical wells may be inadequate
  • Takings claims from actual or effective bans on oil & gas activity
  • Preemption of local regulations by state law

Your registration fee includes comprehensive course materials, with practical and scholarly papers and presentations from academia, companies, NGOs, and law firms. In addition, the Foundation is offering attendees and others substantial discounts on two essential treatises on Fracking:

  • Hydraulic Fracturing: A Guide to Environmental & Real Property Issues (ABA)
  • Hydraulic Fracturing Law and Practice (Lexis)

Phishing Attempt

Good afternoon, everyone.  I wanted to alert you that we have received many reports of a phishing attempt made in the name of EMLF.

The e-mail appears to be an invoice from Natalie Jefferis and asks the recipient to click on a link to review files.

Please be aware that neither EMLF nor Natalie sent this e-mail, and follow your procedure for malicious e-mails.  I apologize for any inconvenience. We are working with our IT person to determine next steps, but wanted to alert you as soon as possible.

Thanks, Anna

Sponsorships Available for Kentucky Mineral Law Conference

The 2018 Kentucky Mineral Law Conference is right around the corner — October 17 and 18 — and we still have some great sponsorship opportunities available!

First, a big thank you goes out to Steptoe & Johnson, our Power Patron this year, as well as Reed Smith, our Pillar Patron, both of whom will be sponsoring the Kentucky Mineral Law Conference.  And thanks to Jackson Kelly, our 2018 Production Patron!

There are a variety of available sponsorship opportunities for the Kentucky conference. You may wish to sponsor one of our snack breaks, breakfasts, lunch, or Wednesday’s reception.  We still have a few slots available for those, as well as exclusive sponsorship opportunities for notepads and nametag lanyards.  And of course, all conference-goers will use the wifi password and the charging station — both great opportunities to display your name and logo! And all of our sponsors receive recognition in printed and digital materials and special sponsor nametags for all attendees.

Click here to find information about the various levels of sponsorship, but please feel free to reach out to me at anna@emlf.org or 859.231.0287 for any questions you may have, and to confirm your sponsorship level.  Your sponsorship makes it possible for EMLF to continue to provide quality educational programs, and it is greatly appreciated!
