Kentucky Mineral Law Planning Luncheon
Members are invited to submit topics for the October 19-21, 2011 Kentucky Mineral Law Conference at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington, KY. A brief description of the topic and any proposed speakers should be emailed by June 15.

The topics and speakers will be selected at the June 20 planning luncheon in Lexington. If you wish to attend the luncheon meeting, please reply to this email and the time and location will be provided. The 2011 Kentucky Mineral Law Conference is chaired by Maureen D. Carman, Attorney at Law, Versailles, KY, and will begin on Wednesday morning with a full day oil and gas track, general sessions and ethics on Thursday, and coal track on Friday morning with members of the Kentucky Coal Association.

Tim Gresham Honored with Award at 32nd Annual Institute
The John L. McClaugherty Award for extraordinary service to the EMLF and to the legal profession was awarded to Timothy W. Gresham, partner in the Abingdon, VA, firm of Penn, Stuart & Eskridge. Recognized for his continuing service to the EMLF and for his years on the Executive Committee, then as Special Advisor to the EC, and as Foundation president, Tim was presented with the award by David G. Ries, the 2010 recipient of the McClaugherty Award.

Since its establishment at the Foundation’s 25th Annual Institute, the following EMLF members have been honored with the award: Edward M. Green, Crowell & Moring, Washington, DC; J. Daniels, EMLF Executive Director.

$50,000 in EMLF Law Student Scholarships Announced at Annual Institute
The EMLF Executive Committee approved increasing the scholarship awards for the 2011-2012 academic year from $30,000 to $50,000, due to a highly successful series of legal education programs during the year. The scholarship recipients were announced at the 2011 Annual Institute.

Every EMLF member can be proud of their support for this program – EMLF General Scholarships come out of the annual operating budget which includes your membership dues and revenues from educational programs. We have three memorial scholarships established in the memory of EMLF members: Paul N. Bowles, James H. Davis, III, and Mary Sue Schulberg.

The following scholarships were awarded:

American University, Washington College of Law: Sean S. Tshikororo – $6000 General Scholarship Fund

University of Kentucky College of Law: Jesse M. Parrish – $1000 James H. Davis III Scholarship and $3000 General Scholarship Fund

University of Oklahoma College of Law: Teresa B. Baumann – $5000 Presidents’ Scholarship and $1000 General Scholarship Fund; Ashley Nguyen Miller – $4000 General Scholarship Fund; Keith A. Needham – $6000 General Scholarship Fund; Bradley N. Secrist – $4000 General Scholarship Fund

University of Pittsburgh School of Law: Joseph V. Schaeffer – $4000 General Scholarship Fund

Southern Methodist University College of Law: Ethan M. Wood – $4000 General Scholarship Fund

John T. Boyd II Assumes Presidency of EMLF at Annual Institute
John T. Boyd II, President and CEO of the John T. Boyd Co., Canonsburg, PA, became the Foundation's 31st president following the Board of Trustees election of new officers, Trustees at Large, and Executive Committee members.

Timothy M. Miller, Robinson & McElwee, Charleston, WV, was elected vice president and president-elect. Sharon O. Flanery, Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, Charleston, WV, is the new Treasurer, and Kenneth E. McDonough, AEP Service Corp., Columbus, OH, is the new Secretary.
